About DUWASA

Dodoma Urban Watersupply and Sewerage Authority (DUWASA) was officially inaugurated on 1 July 1998.

Since its inception in 1998, DUWASA has managed to improve the water supply and sewerage services as follows:

was promoted from a category C to a category A water Authority by covering all of its operations and maintenance costs.

  • In two consecutive years (2005/06 & 2006/07) during the performance evaluation of water Authorities, DUWASA emerged to be the best water Authority in Tanzania.

  • DUWASA attained universal metering in the year 2000.

  • In May 2006, DUWASA managed to become the first water Authority in Tanzania to be granted with a water supply business license. ... (Learn More)

Challenges and the way forward:

  • The old distribution pipelines, totaling 50km, need rehabilitation.
  • Resources are limited for expanding clean water and sewerage networks.
  • The rapid growth and expansion of Dodoma town - in particular since the establishment of Dodoma University, St Johnís University and the Loyola Educational Centre Ė with an expected population increase of 250,000 people by the year 2010.
  • The high demand for increasing water production capacity by drilling more boreholes.
